Hi, let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Evelyn Torrez-Rivera. I was raised in the small community of San Rafael, NM. Throughout my childhood my parents instilled in me strong catholic values. We are a family of twelve, eight brothers and three sisters. My strong catholic values have been passed on to my son and reinforced by my husband, Ted who also was brought up in the catholic faith. While growing up, I was always fascinated by subjects like science, social studies and reading.
Although, I exceled at studies throughout my academic life, I’ve always had a passion for teaching. I was more the hands-on person rather than just memorizing the concepts. After graduating high school, I took an interest in business and attended a business college which landed me a career at Intel Corporation. I left my job at Intel Corporation to pursue my true dream of being a school teacher. It was a decision that changed the entire course of my life. Through this profession, I have been able to make a dream of mine come true. I have always had a passion for teaching young children.
My work as a first grade teacher at Santo Nino offers me immense satisfaction and great pleasure. Working with the children reminds me of how I would want a teacher to work, challenge, be kind, understanding and have patience with my own son. Working hard to pursue your goals and keeping a positive attitude are the qualities that help oneself when you are required to maintain a level head in times of success and failure. These are thetools which have helped me overcome the toughest phases in life.
Now that I am in a position to enjoy my work, I would like to continue to have fun learning, always try my best teaching children, while growing with God.
