"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island."
— Walt Disney
Our mission is to foster a life-long love of reading, provide the resources and materials as well as instruction in their use, which will support and enhance the school’s curriculum and serve the needs of the school community. Our goal is to establish and maintain a collection with a wide range of educational materials on all levels of difficulty, with diversity of appeal, allowing for the presentation of many points of view.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
AR is a computer program that helps our teachers and librarian manage and monitor your child’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer, (passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) AR gives children, our teachers, and librarian feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher or librarian then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.
Book Fair Information
Thank You for all you do to help kids learn to love reading! In recent years, our school has sold nearly $40,000.00 in books through Book Fairs. You have been successful in putting almost 8000 books into kids' hands. One of our goals is to ensure as many children as possible receive books and have access to books. One of the ways we can do that is through the All for Books program. Not only does your donation help our school, but Scholastic Book Fairs will match monetary donations raised with a donation of up to one million books to two non-profit organizations dedicated to helping children, families, and teachers acquire books and educational resources - Kids In Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.
Book Fairs are scheduled every winter and spring, so keep an eye out for details on upcoming dates and times.
